Dance is a complex sensorimotor activity with positive effects on physical fitness, cognition, and brain plasticity in the aging population. We explored whether individual levels of cognitive reserve (CR) proxied by education moderate dance intervention (DI)-induced plasticity assessed by resting-state functional connectivity (rs-FC) changes of the sensorimotor network (SMN), and between the dorsal attention network (DAN) and anterior default mode network (aDMN). Our cohort consisted of 99 subjects, randomly assigned to either a DI group who underwent a 6-month intervention (n = 49, M = 69.

Administration of pulse doses of calcitriol is a better way of conservative treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism (2HPT), making use of the direct suppression of parathormone (PTH) secretion. In a group of 29 haemodialyzed patients the authors evaluated during a six-month follow-up the effect of intravenous Calcijex in 12 and of oral Rocaltrol in 8 subjects. In responders of the calcijex group the PTH level declined by 67.

Changes of the locomotor apparatus in prolonged uraemia with regular dialyzation treatment determine the quality of life with all its consequences for the patient. The greatest impact on osteodystrophic disease (the most typical finding on the skeleton) is exerted by the length of dialyzation treatment. Of 216 patients having regular dialyzation treatment in 1979 to 1992 the authors observed osteodystrophic disease in 25, i.

The authors draw attention to the case of a 46-year-old man who developed after three years of regular dialyzation treatment three times a week the first manifestations of acquired generalized oxalosis. The oxalosis was most marked on the skin, skeleton, heart, and kidneys. Oxalosis was confirmed after eight years of dialysis after death by post-mortem and histological examination and microscopic detection of oxalate crystals.
