Canadian female perspectives on training in the boys club: advanced therapeutic endoscopy.

Introduction: Unequal female representation in the field of advanced therapeutic endoscopy (ATE) has been recently highlighted in the United States. Previous attempts to determine the barriers to entry into the career have reported a lack of mentorship, patriarchy, inflexible hours/calls and exposure to fluoroscopy. Canadian trainee exposure to ATE and differences in experience between men and women is unknown.

Inflammatory bowel disease uncovered in fecal immunochemical test positive patients in a Canadian provincial colon cancer screening program.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory condition that usually affects younger adults but has a second incidence peak in the older population. Although diagnosis of IBD is driven by symptoms, some patients are asymptomatic and incidentally discovered while participating in colon screening program (CSP). We aimed to identify the incidence and outcome of IBD in fecal immunochemical test (FIT) positive patients in the British Columbia CSP.

Maternal Streptococcus agalactiae colonization in Europe: data from the multi-center DEVANI study.

Introduction: Despite national guidelines and use of intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis (IAP), Streptococcus agalactiae (group B streptococci (GBS)) is still a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in newborns in Europe and the United States. The European DEVANI (Design of a Vaccine Against Neonatal Infections) program assessed the neonatal GBS infection burden in Europe, the clinical characteristics of colonized women and microbiological data of GBS strains in colonized women and their infants with early-onset disease (EOD).

Methods: Overall, 1083 pregnant women with a GBS-positive culture result from eight European countries were included in the study.

Esophageal Tuberculosis as a Rare Cause of Dysphagia: Case Report.

Introduction: The esophagus and duodenum are rare sites of manifestation for extrapulmonary tuberculosis (TB). Its rarity makes the diagnosis challenging, especially when no other organ is involved, and the endoscopic findings may resemble malignancy.

Case Presentation: We report a unique case of a 37-year-old woman who presented with dysphagia secondary to esophageal TB with an endoscopic appearance of a submucosal mass resembling malignancy.

Background: Canada has one of the highest incidences of colorectal cancer (CRC) worldwide. CRC screening improves CRC outcomes and is cost-effective. This study compares Canadian CRC screening programs using essential elements of an organized screening program outlined by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).
