Safety of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in non-emergent patients with a history of seizures: A retrospective cohort study.

Background: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is well established as a treatment for various medical conditions. However, it poses a risk of oxygen toxicity, which can cause seizures particularly in individuals with pre-existing seizure disorders. Consequently, seizure disorders are considered a relative contraindication to HBOT.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy during Pregnancy for Critical Anemia Secondary to Sickle Cell Disease with Post-Transfusion Hyperhemolysis: A Case Report.

Sickle cell disease is the most common human monogenetic disease, and its risks are amplified during pregnancy. : This report describes a 35-year-old woman with HgbSS sickle cell disease who developed hyperhemolysis syndrome after undergoing an exchange transfusion during pregnancy. In addition to conventional medical treatment, the patient received prepartum hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), totaling 17 treatments for the indication of severe anemia.

Age and its impact on crisis management performance and learning after simulation-based education by acute care physicians: a multicentre prospective cohort study.

Background: Physiological changes associated with ageing could negatively impact the crisis resource management skills of acute care physicians. This study was designed to determine whether physician age impacts crisis resource management skills, and crisis resource management skills learning and retention using full-body manikin simulation training in acute care physicians.

Anesthesia quality indicators to measure and improve your practice: a modified delphi study.

Background: Implementation of the new competency-based post-graduate medical education curriculum has renewed the push by medical regulatory bodies in Canada to strongly advocate and/or mandate continuous quality improvement (cQI) for all physicians. Electronic anesthesia information management systems contain vast amounts of information yet it is unclear how this information could be used to promote cQI for practicing anesthesiologists. The aim of this study was to create a refined list of meaningful anesthesia quality indicators to assist anesthesiologists in the process of continuous self-assessment and feedback of their practice.
