Article Synopsis
  • Resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) is gaining traction in clinical settings for brain mapping, but faces challenges with standardization, reliability, and interpretation of results across different medical centers.
  • Key issues include variability in cognitive network representation and the effects of neurovascular uncoupling, which affect the accuracy of language lateralization and overall connectivity detection.
  • Despite these challenges, rs-fMRI is viewed as a valuable complement to task-based fMRI (tb-fMRI) in clinical presurgical contexts and is expected to grow in use as solutions to its limitations are developed.

Purpose: The safety and efficacy of Woven EndoBridge (WEB) treatment has been proven. However, only a few standard techniques for safe and versatile WEB deployment have been described in the literature. In this study, we introduce the "make a flower bud and push at neck" technique to achieve safety and versatility during WEB treatment, referred to simply as the "flower bud" technique.

Transcranial focused ultrasound (FUS) is a versatile, MR-guided, incisionless intervention with diagnostic and therapeutic applications for neurologic and psychiatric diseases. It is currently FDA-approved as a thermoablative treatment of essential tremor and Parkinson disease. However, other applications of FUS including BBB opening for diagnostic and therapeutic applications, sonodynamic therapy, histotripsy, and low-intensity focused ultrasound neuromodulation are all in clinical trials.

Article Synopsis
  • A 36-year-old adult was diagnosed with an unusual heart condition where the right pulmonary artery originated from the aorta, along with pulmonary hypertension and moderate mitral regurgitation.
  • During a preoperative procedure, an echocardiogram revealed a right pulmonary arteriovenous fistula, indicating abnormal blood flow between the pulmonary artery and left atrium.
  • After surgical reconstruction of the right pulmonary artery with a Dacron graft, significant improvements were observed; six months later, the fistula decreased, and both pulmonary arterial pressure and mitral regurgitation improved dramatically.
