Temporal and spatial distribution of inorganic fluoride, total adsorbable organofluorine, PFOA and PFOS concentrations in the Hungarian section of the Danube River.

The existing technologies in municipal wastewater treatment plants are ineffective in eliminating persistent fluorine-containing contaminants. At the same time, there is an increasing demand for novel organofluorine compounds, particularly in the production of lithium-ion batteries, as well as in the agrochemical and pharmaceutical sectors for more efficient ingredients. This implies that we must account for ongoing changes in the fluorine levels within riverine environments.

Hydrostatic characteristics of the ileocolic valve and intussuscepted nipple valves: an animal model.

The ileocolic valve, in the dog, decelerates the passage of stools and prevents fecal reflux. A loss of anterograde resistance worsens the symptoms of short bowel syndrome. The absence of fecal reflux control enhances the risk of recurrence of Crohn's disease.

[New data for the public health importance of hantaviruses in Hungary].

Introduction: The authors present recent results in the Hungarian hantavirus ecology and epidemiology. Most of the research was done between 1992-2000.

Aim: To determine the presence and geographic distribution of hantaviruses and to get more detailed information of human and small-mammal infection with these viruses in Hungary.

Internal mammary lymph nodes and sentinel node biopsy in breast cancer.

The long-term follow-up of patients treated with extended radical mastectomy has proved that the internal mammary node (IMN) status is an important prognosticator of breast cancer. Patients with isolated IMN involvement seem to have the same outcome as those with limited axillary disease, and these patients may therefore be overstaged in the TNM system. Sentinel node biopsy (SNB) of IMNs may be an ideal staging procedure, but lymphatic mapping studies demonstrate that data from extended radical mastectomy series cannot be extrapolated to patients suitable for SNB, where the IMN involvement is <5% overall, and around 1% for IMN metastases without axillary disease.

[Natural killer cell activity in multiple sclerosis patients].

The physical factors are important in the regulation of immunological functions. The primary immunological process maintaining a neuroimmunological disease is influenced by the physical state. In this paper the natural killer activity was demonstrated at 50 patients with definite multiple sclerosis.
