Currently, Slovakia is a rabies-free country, but the epizootiological situation of rabies was not always favorable. The main reservoir species of rabies virus in the first half of the last century was the domestic dog. Since 1906, hundreds of cases were reported, of which approximately 90% were infected dogs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the antioxidative effects of α-tocopherol and β-carotene in squalene adjuvant emulsions used with a rabies vaccine, focusing on stability and effectiveness.
  • Findings showed that while α-tocopherol acted as a prooxidant, β-carotene successfully reduced oxidative injury and maintained emulsion stability even during prolonged homogenization.
  • The vaccine formulated with β-carotene led to a slower but consistent increase in rabies antibody levels, ultimately achieving a higher protective antibody concentration compared to the vaccine without β-carotene.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the effectiveness and long-term impacts of three Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapies on osteoporosis in rats with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
  • A total of 120 rats were divided into different groups, receiving either TCM therapies or a control treatment, and various health indicators like bone density and lung function were measured over a 32-week period.
  • Results indicated that TCM treatments significantly improved lung function, bone mass density, and inflammation markers compared to the model group, showcasing their potential for preventing and treating osteoporosis in this context.

In the presented work, we compared the results of determination of rabies antibodies using three in vitro methods: rapid fluorescent focus inhibition test (RFFIT), fluorescent antibody virus neutralisation test (FAVNT) and the immunoenzymatic assay (ELISA). 196 dog sera samples were examined with FAVNT, RFFIT methods and the ELISA test. Sera with low and sufficiently high titre of antibodies had a similar result in determining by all methods.
