Aim: Lyme borreliosis (LB) is the most common tick-borne disease in Germany; however, data on the economic burden of LB are limited. In this study, we aim to report healthcare costs, healthcare resource utilisation (HCRU) and diagnostic consumption associated with LB by clinical manifestation.

Method: Using specific case definitions, patients with localised disease (erythema migrans [EM]) or disseminated disease (Lyme arthritis [LA], Lyme neuroborreliosis [LNB] and other rarer manifestations [OTH]) were identified from a claims database in 2016 and followed up for 3 years (2016-2019).

Lyme borreliosis (LB) is the most common tick-borne disease in Germany. Although the incidence of LB in Germany has been assessed in several studies, those studies either used data from statutory surveillance, which frequently underreport cases, or data from health claims databases, which may overestimate cases due to non-specific LB case definitions. Here, using a more specific case definition, we describe the incidence of medically-attended LB by disease manifestation, age group, and federal state for the period 2015-2019.

To characterize the hits from a phenotypic neurotoxicity screen, we obtained transcriptomics data for valinomycin, diethylstilbestrol, colchicine, rotenone, 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP), carbaryl and berberine (Ber). For all compounds, the concentration triggering neurite degeneration correlated with the onset of gene expression changes. The mechanistically diverse toxicants caused similar patterns of gene regulation: the responses were dominated by cell de-differentiation and a triggering of canonical stress response pathways driven by ATF4 and NRF2.

In cells undergoing cell-intrinsic apoptosis, mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization (MOMP) typically marks an irreversible step in the cell death process. However, in some cases, a subpopulation of treated cells can exhibit a sublethal response, termed "minority MOMP." In this phenomenon, the affected cells survive, despite a low level of caspase activation and subsequent limited activation of the endonuclease caspase-activated DNase (DNA fragmentation factor subunit beta).

Background: Acetabular retroversion results in reduced range of motion, and is thought to contribute to femoroacetabular impingement. Severe retroversion can be corrected with a periacetabular osteotomy, which is a technically demanding intervention. In this study, we investigated whether increasing femoral antetorsion is a potential alternative to restore the range of motion and how this approach would affect hip joint loading.
