Groundwater controls on colloidal transport in forest stream waters.

Biogeochemical changes of whole catchments may, at least in part, be deduced from changes in stream water composition. We hypothesized that there are seasonal variations of natural nanoparticles (NNP; 1-100 nm) and fine colloids (<300 nm) in stream water, which differ in origin depending on catchment inflow parameters. To test this hypothesis, we assessed the annual dynamics of the elemental composition of NNP and fine colloids in multiple water compartments, namely in stream water, above and below canopy precipitation, groundwater and lateral subsurface flow from the Conventwald catchment, Germany.

[Tenotomy of carpal and digital flexor tendons for correction of congenital neuromyodysplasia in a calf].

In a 7-day-old heifer calf, a bilateral flexural deformity of the forelimbs involving the digital flexor tendons, the suspensory ligament and the ulnar and radial carpal flexor tendons was diagnosed. After 2 weeks of conservative treatment consisting of manual stretching of the legs and the application of splints and wooden blocks, which were glued to the soles and extended beyond the tip of the claws, the right forelimb could be extended sufficiently to allow weight bearing, whereas the left forelimb could be passively extended to only approximately 120°. Therefore, tenotomy of the ulnar carpal flexor tendon, the digital flexor tendons and the suspensory ligament was carried out in the left leg.

Diagnostic procedures and surgical treatment of craniodorsal coxofemoral luxation in calves.

Objective: To report use of ultrasonographic examination of the coxofemoral joint, a surgical technique for repair of craniodorsal coxofemoral dislocation, and outcome.

Study Design: Clinical case reports.

Animals: Calves (n=4) with coxofemoral luxation.

[Nerve sheath tumors in cattle: literature review and case report].

Incidence, clinical signs, pathomorphological findings, differential diagnosis and prognosis of bovine nerve sheath tumours are reviewed. Own clinical and pathomorphological findings are described in an eight years old cow with a benign SCHWANNoma of the eight spinal nerve.
