Background: In recent years, the Web has become a source of medical information for patients, even though the information available online may be incorrect or qualitatively inadequate. Younger generations, immersed in a digital environment since a very tender age, are more likely to get informed online. This study aims to understand the relevance of online information for prospective orthodontic patients and to investigate the effects of digital research on patients' decision-making process, and it also aims to investigate potential generational differences between digital natives and digital immigrants.

Objectives: Alcohol use disorders (AUDs) represent a large public health burden with relatively few efficacious pharmacotherapies. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for new AUD therapies can be hampered by ineffective recruitment, leading to increased trial costs. The current analyses examined the effectiveness of recruitment efforts during two consecutive outpatient RCTs of novel AUD pharmacotherapies conducted between 2009 and 2012.

Leaves are reported to contain a secreted alpha-amylase that accumulates during senescence or after biotic or abiotic stress; however, a gene encoding this enzyme has not been described. Because a secreted amylase is isolated from plastidic starch, the function of this enzyme is difficult to predict, but circumstantial evidence suggests that it may degrade starch after cell death. The Arabidopsis thaliana genome contains three alpha-amylase genes, one of which, AMY1 (At4g25000), has a putative signal sequence suggesting that the protein may be secreted.

The nuclear gene X-src is a member of the tyrosine-kinase class of proto-oncogenes whose normal product is localized within the cytoplasm of the cell. The X-src gene has been used in only a few phylogenetic studies, each focusing on systematics of killifishes (Cyprinodontiformes). The present study is an attempt to examine the phylogenetic utility of X-src for uncovering relationships of representative cichlid fishes, especially the cichlids of Middle America.
