Background: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus is predominantly a disease of the elderly. By its nature, many of those who present to clinic are in advanced old age with multiple comorbidities. Majority of patients treated are younger than 80 years old.

An investigation into the clinical impacts of lowering shunt opening pressure in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus: A case series.

Introduction: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is a shunt- reversible syndrome of the elderly. Shunt management is aimed at achieving a balance between clinical improvement and the complications associated with overdrainage. Although clinical improvement occurs at low pressure, these benefits may be negated by the increase in complication rates observed at lower pressures.

Neural stimulators: a guide to imaging and postoperative appearances.

Implantable neural stimulators have been developed to aid patients with debilitating neurological conditions that are not amenable to other therapies. The aim of this article is to improve understanding of correct anatomical placement as well as the relevant imaging methods used to assess these devices. Potential complications following their insertion and an overview of the current indications and potential mechanism of action of these devices is provided.

Secondary normal pressure hydrocephalus in a patient with isolated frontal dilatation--an insight into pathophysiology?

Current theories of the pathophysiology of normal pressure hydrocephalus suggest the classical symptoms are a consequence of disruption of normal frontal function. We present the case of a 70-year-old patient with an isolated, frontal dilatation of his lateral ventricles in the presence of a complete triad as supportive of these theories.
