Rosai-Dorfman disease of the genito-urinary tract: analysis of six cases from the testis and kidney.

Aims: Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) commonly occurs in lymph nodes, but it can also affect the genitourinary (GU) system. In a search of GU RDD, we identified three cases involving the testis and three the kidney.

Cytokeratin-positive malignant tumors with reticulum cell morphology: a subtype of fibroblastic reticulum cell neoplasm?

Cytokeratin-positive interstitial reticulum cells (CIRCs) have been described as a subset of fibroblastic reticulum cells (FBRCs) normally found in lymph nodes, the spleen, and tonsils. Although tumors derived form other reticulum (dendritic) cells, specifically follicular dendritic cells, interdigitating dendritic cells, and cytokeratin-negative FBRCs, have been well documented and are now accepted, this is not the case for tumors of CIRCs. A possible reason for this failure is the difficulty in distinguishing them from other tumors, particularly carcinoma.

A review article discussing the taxonomy, parasite life cycle and laboratory diagnosis of Isospora belli is presented. The pathology, epidemiology, clinical findings and therapy of human intestinal infection with Isospora belli are also addressed.

Neuroblastoma as a prominent component of a mixed germ cell tumor of testis.

Background: Primitive neuroectodermal tissue in teratomas of testis has been reported in the literature. A mixed germ cell tumor of testis with a prominent neuroblastoma component dictating the clinical behavior was found to be unique.

Methods: Tissue sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin, and immunohistochemical, ultrastructural, cytogenetic, and flow cytometric analyses were performed on the primitive neuroectodermal component of the testicular mass.
