We tested the hypothesis that conserved placental mammal-specific microRNAs and their targets facilitate endometrial receptivity to implantation. Expression of miR-340-5p, -542-3p, and -671-5p was regulated by exposure of endometrial epithelial cells to progesterone (10 μg/ml) for 24 h coordinate with 1,713 of their predicted targets. Proteomic analysis of cells transfected with miRNA mimic/inhibitor (48 h: n = 3) revealed 1,745 proteins altered by miR-340-5p (mimic; 1,369, inhibitor; 376) of which 171 were predicted targets and P4-regulated.

Objectives: The management of women at high risk of HIV infection who repeatedly decline HIV testing in pregnancy is not covered in any national guideline. In Leeds, we had a case which prompted us to consider maternal rights plus our duty of care to the infant once born.

Methods: Leeds has an established HIV and Syphilis in Pregnancy Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).

Night Eating Syndrome (NES), as a diagnosis, presents as a combination of disordered eating, sleep and mood. Patients identified as having both NES and obesity demonstrate poorer outcomes in terms of weight loss compared to those with NES only. However, research focusing on psychological factors associated with NES remains relatively underdeveloped.

Pancreatic polypeptide (PP), peptide YY (PYY) and neuropeptide Y (NPY), members of the PP-fold family share a high degree of sequence homology. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and X-ray crystallography studies have shown these peptides can adopt a tightly organized tertiary structure called the PP-fold, which has long been assumed to be the active structure of this family of peptides. To date, however, no studies have been completed with PYY and PP which confirm if the PP-fold structure is important for their physiological actions.

Peptide YY(3-36) (PYY(3-36)) is a gut hormone that acts on Y2 receptors to reduce appetite. Obese humans are sensitive to the anorectic effects of PYY(3-36) and display a blunted postprandial rise in PYY(3-36). Bariatric surgery results in increased circulating PYY-immunoreactivity, which appears to play a role in postoperative weight loss.
