Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis Is Associated With Circadian and Other Variability in Embolus Detection.

Variability in transcranial Doppler (TCD) detection of embolic signals (ES) is important for risk stratification. We tested the effect of time of day on ES associated with 60-99% asymptomatic carotid stenosis. Subjects were from the Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis Embolus Detection (ASED) Study such that half were previously ES-positive and half ES-negative with 6-monthly 60-min TCD monitoring.

Management of cholesterol to reduce the burden of stroke in Asia: consensus statement.

Stroke is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in Asia, and its pattern is changing. The incidence of haemorrhagic stroke is declining while the incidence of ischaemic stroke caused by large artery atherothromboembolism is increasing secondary to an increase in the prevalence of hypercholesterolaemia. The Working Group on Stroke and Lipids Management in Asia Consensus Panel assembled leading experts from the region to reach a consensus on how to address this challenge.

Migraine disability awareness campaign in Asia: migraine assessment for prophylaxis.

Objectives: This study aimed to survey the headache diagnoses and consequences among outpatients attending neurological services in 8 Asian countries.

Methods: This survey recruited patients who consulted neurologists for the first time with the chief complaint of headache. Patients suffering from headaches for 15 or more days per month were excluded.

Tuberculous meningitis: neuroimaging features, clinical staging and outcome.

Forty-two patients diagnosed with tuberculous meningitis in Kuala Lumpur Hospital based on clinical criteria, cerebrospinal fluid analysis and response to antituberculous treatment over a seven year period were included in this study. Relevant information was obtained from patients' medical case notes and neuroimaging findings were evaluated. The clinical presentation of patients was staged according to Medical Research Council for tuberculous meningitis.

Neuroimaging features of tuberculous meningitis.

Tuberculous meningitis leads to a high mortality rate. However, it responds well to chemotherapy if the treatment is started early. Neuroimaging is one of the most important initial investigations.
