Validation of a simplified oral indicator for home care nurses to refer older people to dental care professionals.

Objectives: This study aims to explore the identification of older people in need of dental consultation, with a Simplified Oral Indicator (SOI) used by home care nurses (HCNs) and with the Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI-NL) completed by older people themselves, compared with the Oral Health Assessment Tool (OHAT-NL), performed by dental hygienists.

Methods: The HCNs completed SOI based on their professional view, knowledge and experience; scores red/orange/green were given to older people for oral health and oral hygiene. Older people completed the GOHAI-NL and dental hygienists completed the OHAT-NL.

Understanding frailty and its opposites from community-dwelling older peoples' perspectives: A phenomenological qualitative study.

Background: the global population is ageing. As older people become more susceptible to frailty, an increase in frailty prevalence is also expected. Although frailty has been defined before in research, older peoples' perceptions of frailty do not always coincide with those used in research or medical settings.

Dementia in People with Severe/Profound Intellectual (And Multiple) Disabilities, and Its Natural History.

Introduction: Although the prevalence of dementia increases among people with severe/profound intellectual (and multiple) disabilities (SPI(M)D), dementia in people with SPI(M)D is not yet fully understood. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize the natural history of dementia in people with SPI(M)D, in particular, the prevalence and time of onset of dementia symptoms.

Methods: An explorative retrospective review of clinical records was conducted for people with SPI(M)D without dementia ( = 103), with questionable dementia ( = 19), and with diagnosed dementia ( = 19).

Frailty, Quality of Life, and Loneliness of Aging in Native and Diasporic Chinese Adults.

Background: Global migration has increased in the past century, and aging in a foreign country is relevant to the Chinese diaspora.

Objective: With regard to migration, this study focuses on the places of aging as the context of older Chinese adults. This study aimed to describe the general health and wellbeing of this population with respect to their location.
