Introduction: Reconstruction of mandibular disarticulation defects is a challenging area of head and neck surgery, with a variety of options available for replacement of the condylar head. The gold standard is autogenous reconstruction of the condyle-ramus unit. The use of a prosthetic condylar head is controversial, but in challenging cases, and those with a likely poor prognosis it may be considered and can achieve a good functional result.

Shoulder exosuits are a promising new technology that could enable individuals with neuromuscular impairments to independently perform activities of daily living, however, scarce evidence exists to evaluate their ability to support such activities. Consequently, it is not understood how humans adapt motion in response to assistance from a shoulder exosuit. In this study, we developed a cable-driven shoulder exosuit and evaluated its effect on reaching and drinking tasks within a cohort of 18 healthy subjects to quantify changes to muscle activity and kinematics as well as trial-to-trial learning in duration and actuator switch timing.

Functional electrical stimulation (FES) is often used in poststroke gait rehabilitation to address decreased walking speed, foot drop, and decreased forward propulsion. However, not all individuals experience clinically meaningful improvements in gait function with stimulation. Previous research has developed adaptive functional electrical stimulation (AFES) systems that adjust stimulation timing and amplitude at every stride to deliver optimal stimulation.

Background And Objectives: Key opinion leader (KOL) interviews were conducted by the Benefit-Risk Assessment Planning (BRAP) Taskforce to seek expert opinion mainly from industry and regulatory bodies, about the current status and future direction of benefit-risk assessment (BRA) planning in the lifecycle of medical product development. The findings from these interviews are intended to help communication concerning planning for BRA between industry and regulators and shape future guidance.

Methods: Key opinion leader interviews consisted of 5 questions related to BRA planning, which were administered to volunteers (mainly clinicians and statisticians) within a pool of experienced pharmaceutical and medical device professionals representing academia, industry, regulatory agencies and a patient group.
