Background: Despite being one of the most common operations performed by general surgeons, there is a lack of consensus regarding the recommended approach for ventral hernia repair (VHR). Recent times have seen the rapid development of new techniques, such as robotic ventral hernia repair (RVHR). Article Synopsis
  • The Speech Language Therapy First Point of Contact Clinic (SLT-FPOCC) model aims to improve management of low-risk ENT patients, specifically focusing on vocal cord assessments for those undergoing thyroid/parathyroid surgery.
  • In a study of 100 patients, the SLT-FPOCC identified significant speech and swallowing issues, confirming that the model effectively assesses and monitors patient health pre- and post-surgery.
  • Results showed high patient satisfaction and a low incidence of complications, suggesting the service could be expanded to enhance overall care in similar populations.

  • The objective of the study was to create clinical recommendations for diagnosing and managing primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) in adults, based on evidence and expert consensus from Australia and New Zealand.
  • The results emphasize the importance of measuring serum calcium and other related markers in patients with symptoms, reduced bone mineral density, or kidney stones, with parathyroidectomy being the only definitive treatment recommended for symptomatic cases.
  • The conclusions aim to enhance clinical practice guidelines for PHPT management, ultimately improving health outcomes and reducing costs for the community.
