On the occasion of the Medical Library Association's 125th Anniversary, four librarian leaders with a combined 105 years of engagement in MLA collaborated to reflect on the changes in our profession and our association. We draw on an examination of the last 25 years of the MLA Janet Doe Lectures, our own personal histories, and scholarship we produced for MLA publications and presentations. We offer this compilation as an invitation for readers to reflect on their experiences of changes within the profession, inspiration to engage in the issues around our place in society, and a source for additional exploration into researching and learning from our collective history.

The smallpox vaccine developed by Jenner in 1798 was successfully introduced in France in 1800 with the support of Napoleon Bonaparte. The medals and tokens (coin-like medals) issued to encourage early-day vaccination activities are described in the context of the changing political situation in that country. In 1800 a private society of subscribers, led by the Duke of La Rochefoucauld-Liancourt was created, along with a Vaccine Committee charged with evaluating the safety and efficacy of vaccination before deciding if vaccination should be extended to the entire population.

Background And Objective: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has emerged as a noninvasive clinical tool for assessment of hepatic steatosis. Multi-spectral fat-water MRI models, incorporating single or dual transverse relaxation decay rate(s) (R2*) have been proposed for accurate fat fraction (FF) estimation. H3K9 trimethylation (H3K9me3) plays emerging roles in gene regulation, beyond its accumulation on pericentric constitutive heterochromatin. It remains a mystery why and how H3K9me3 undergoes dynamic regulation in male meiosis. Here, we identify a novel, critical regulator of H3K9 methylation and spermatogenic heterochromatin organization: the germline-specific protein ATF7IP2 (MCAF2).
