Article Synopsis
  • A 1-year-old male European shorthair cat showed unilateral cryptorchidism and underwent various studies, revealing normal testosterone but low levels of anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH).
  • Surgical removal of the reproductive organs showed inactive testicles with unusual tissue changes, while cytogenetic analysis indicated a normal XY chromosome arrangement.
  • Genetic testing found novel variants in AMH gene but concluded these mutations, along with known variations in AMHR2, are not linked to persistent Mullerian duct syndrome (PMDS) in this cat.

The migration of mandibular fibrochondrocytes is important for the development of the mandible, the homeostasis of the mandibular cartilage, and for the capacity of the tissue to respond to injury. Mandibular fibrochondrocytes have to overcome formidable obstacles during migration including a dense and heterogeneous three-dimensional matrix. Guiding the direction of cell migration and commitment to a migratory phenotype in this microenvironment necessitates a multivalent response to chemotactic and extracellular matrix-mediated stimuli.

Cleft lip and palate (CLP) is a well-known congenital defect in dogs, characterized by abnormal communication between the oral and nasal cavities. Its incidence rate is high and affects all dog breeds. The etiology of CLP is thought to be multifactorial, caused by both genetic and environmental factors.

Post-traumatic osteoarthritis in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ OA) is associated dysfunctional cellmatrix mediated signalling resulting from changes in the pericellular microenvironment after injury. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-13 is a critical enzyme in biomineralisation and the progression of OA that can both degrade the extracellular matrix and modify extracellular receptors. This study focused on MMP-13 mediated changes in a transmembrane proteoglycan, Neuron Glial antigen 2 (NG2/CSPG4).
