Aim: Although recombinant human thyrotropin (rhTSH) is widely used in treating differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), almost all clinical investigation has been in adults. The aim of our retrospective study was to evaluate outcomes of adjuvant, rhTSH-aided radioiodine treatment in children/adolescents with DTC and to compare them to (131)I therapy during l-thyroxin withdrawal (THW).

Methods: Patients with the diagnosis of DTC who were ≤18 years of age and had no signs of persistent disease at the time of (131)I treatment were included; 48 patients were treated after rhTSH (rhTSH group) and 82 after THW group.

Unlabelled: Between the years 2002 and 2006 in the Department of Paediatrics, Haematology, Oncology and Endocrinology, Medical University of Gdansk, six patients with neuroblastoma were qualified for the high risk group. Aim of the study was the evaluation of treatment results after using new methods of therapy.

Material And Methods: Intensive multimodal therapy according to the new European protocol HR-NBL-1/ESIOP, was implemented in 6 children.

Between 1970-1995 because of thyroid carcinoma 105 children were diagnosed or treated by radioiodine at the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Institute of Oncology and Cancer Center in Gliwice, 101 of them with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). All children were operated, in 91% by total thyroidectomy. Papillary carcinoma was diagnosed in 73% of children, follicular cancer in 27%.
