Minimal encephalopathy in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia patients with portosystemic vascular malformations.

Background: Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) is characterized by telangiectasia and larger vascular malformations. Liver malformations are the most frequent visceral involvement including the presence of portosystemic malformations (PSM) that can cause hepatic encephalopathy. Minimal hepatic encephalopathy (mHE) is characterized by alterations of brain function in neuropsychological or neurophysiological tests and decreases quality of life.

Long-term follow-up of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia patients without significant pulmonary right-to-left shunt at screening.

Objectives: To describe the incidence of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVM)-related complications, right-to-left shunt (RLS) progression at transthoracic contrast echocardiography (TTCE) and development of treatable PAVM during long-term follow-up in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) patients with RLS grades 0-1 at screening TTCE.

Methods: Observational prospective study including adult HHT patients with grades 0-1 RLS at screening TTCE. Those requiring previous embolization of PAVM were excluded.

Fission yeast Bgs1 glucan synthase participates in the control of growth polarity and membrane traffic.

Rod-shaped fission yeast grows through cell wall expansion at poles and septum, synthesized by essential glucan synthases. Bgs1 synthesizes the linear β(1,3)glucan of primary septum at cytokinesis. Linear β(1,3)glucan is also present in the wall poles, suggesting additional Bgs1 roles in growth polarity.

Machine learning for the development of diagnostic models of decompensated heart failure or exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Heart failure (HF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are two chronic diseases with the greatest adverse impact on the general population, and early detection of their decompensation is an important objective. However, very few diagnostic models have achieved adequate diagnostic performance. The aim of this trial was to develop diagnostic models of decompensated heart failure or COPD exacerbation with machine learning techniques based on physiological parameters.

Identification and description of the sociomotor sub-roles and the Ludogram of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Introduction: Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) was conceived to be an oppositional sociomotor practice with an emphasis on self-defense, but throughout the 20th century, BJJ gained sporting features, modifying its internal logic (IL). In BJJ, the richness of the motor itineraries can be revealed in the different sociomotor sub-roles. Considering the absence of research that identifies and describes the sub-roles and the Ludogram of BJJ, the following question was asked: how can the Ludogram of sociomotor sub-roles of Brazilian jiu-jitsu be systematized in accordance with its internal logic?

Methods: This work is characterized as theoretical research that is dedicated to rebuilding theories and concepts with a view, in immediate terms, to improving theoretical foundations.
