Methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) in general practice or in specialized centers: profile of patients in the Swiss Canton of Vaud.

We studied profile of patients (n=1782) treated in specialized centers and general practice (GP) enrolled in methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) programs during 2001 in the Swiss Canton of Vaud. We found that GPs treated the majority of patients (76%). Specialized centers treated a higher proportion of patients with uncontrolled intravenous use of cocaine and heroin, and prescribed neuroleptics as concomitant medication three times more frequently than GPs.

[An exhibition on sexually transmissible diseases and AIDS for Vaudois apprentices].

An exhibition on STDs and AIDS, animated constantly by specially trained professionals, was organized in a school for apprentices (6500 pupils). Its purposes: to help youngsters make more personal and responsible decisions about their sexual lives; to reinforce their knowledges on STDs and AIDS transmission and prevention; modify their attitudes and behavior in the field of contraception (discussions with partner, use of condoms). The impact of this exhibition will be measured scientifically.

[Program of prevention and health promotion among young inhabitants of Vaud from 16 to 19 years].

The first part of the presentation deals with a new school health program for adolescents 16 to 19. The second part focuses on a prospective evaluative study of the validity of hypertension detection among adolescents, which is part of this new program.
