Impact of stormwater on biofilm density and microbial community composition in water distribution networks.

Harvesting of stormwater and injecting it into aquifers for storage and recovery during high water demand periods is a promising technology for augmenting conventional water reserves. However, little has been known on how stormwater impacts the biofouling of water distribution infrastructure. This study evaluated the effect on harvested and limestone aquifer treated stormwater on biofilm formation in a pilot distribution pipe network compared to an identical drinking water pipe rig.

Hypoxia-Associated Gene Signatures Are Not Prognostic in High-Risk Localized Prostate Cancers Undergoing Androgen Deprivation Therapy With Radiation Therapy.

Purpose: Men with high-risk prostate cancer (PCa) are treated with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) and radiation therapy, but the disease reoccurs in 30% of patients. Biochemical recurrence of PCa after treatment is influenced by tumor hypoxia. Tumors with high levels of hypoxia are aggressive, resistant to treatment, and have increased metastatic capacity.

Editorial Commentary: Comprehensive Treatment of Hip Acetabular Dysplasia Plus Labral and/or Cam Pathology With Combined Periacetabular Osteotomy and Hip Arthroscopy.

Periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) is the agreed-upon treatment for symptomatic hip dysplasia in the skeletally mature patient. Many surgeons perform hip arthroscopy to address intra-articular damage around the time of the PAO. Other surgeons believe that correcting the dysplasia with the PAO unloads the soft tissues, which negates the need for arthroscopy.
