In this paper we explore refractory agitation in the neonatal population, focusing on the limitations of existing evidence on appropriate prevention, diagnosis, and treatment options. We highlight seven patients identified in an urban single-center level IV NICU with agitation unresponsive to standard non-pharmacologic interventions and escalation of standard neurosedative medications. We analyzed baseline characteristics and clinical courses of these patients with the aim to identify the NICU subpopulation at greatest risk for development of refractory agitation and to gain insight into the potential benefits of alternative medical management of agitation on later neurodevelopment.

The enol-Ugi condensation, a versatile multicomponent reaction, provides a rapid and efficient route to enamine peptidomimetics. In this study, we investigated the factors influencing the conformational behavior of three enol-Ugi adducts with distinct structural features. Through DFT calculations and NCI analysis, we identified that noncovalent interactions, including hydrogen bonds and π-π interactions, play a pivotal role in restricting conformational flexibility.

This study reports the synthesis, characterization, and antifungal evaluation of a series of pyridoxal and salicylaldehyde derivatives, using synthetic methodologies such as radical cyclizations and click chemistry. Compounds and , featuring a fused dihydrobenzoxepine-pyridine scaffold, demonstrated effective fungicidal activity with MIC values of 19 µg/mL against 2807. Similarly, compound exhibited notable activity with a MIC of 75 µg/mL against PUJ-HUSI 537.

Background: Older females have higher Alzheimer's Disease (AD) risk and tau burden, especially in early disease stages, compared to males. Overlapping cardiovascular disease (CVD) and dementia risk factors, like the apolipoprotein (APOE)-ε4 allele, show mixed sex-specific results. We previously found that late-life CVD risk related more strongly to tau at a single timepoint in cognitively normal, older female APOE-ε4 carriers than in males.
