Metabolic syndrome is diagnosed mainly in people of economically developed parts of the world and it affects 20-25% of the adult population worldwide. Nowadays, it is also more frequently diagnosed in children and adolescents. In addition to standard treatment that often involves polypharmacotherapy, and thus increases risk of side effects caused by drugdrug interactions, it is appropriate to look for alternative tools to support the treatment of metabolic syndrome components.
