Prolactin levels have been shown to influence metabolic outcomes, including insulin resistance. Metformin is known to be beneficial in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients. PCOS women might react differently to metformin treatment depending on their baseline prolactin levels.

The Impact of Maternal Gestational Diabetes Mellitus on Minipuberty in Boys.

Background/objectives: Minipuberty is thought to play an important role in the sexual maturation of infants. Maternal disorders during pregnancy were found to have an impact on the activity of the reproductive axis in the first year of life. This prospective, matched, cohort study was aimed at investigating whether the course of minipuberty in boys is affected by maternal gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Inhibition of LDHB suppresses the metastatic potential of lung cancer by reducing mitochondrial GSH catabolism.

Metastasis, the leading cause of cancer death, is closely linked to lactate metabolism. Our study aimed to investigate the role of lactate dehydrogenase B (LDHB), which mainly catalyzes the conversion of lactate to pyruvate, in the metastatic potential of lung cancer. We found that LDHB silencing reduced the invasion and migration ability of lung cancer cells in vitro.

ECC at LLETZ-An Exploratory Retrospective Cohort Study.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the distribution of the histological results of the endocervical curettage (ECC) at large loop excision of the transformation zone (LLETZ) as well as the additional diagnostic information and its impact on further clinical treatment recommendations in accordance with national guidelines. The ECC in addition to LLETZ can serve to detect (pre)cancerogenic lesions above the endocervical cone margin, although its predictive value as well as diagnostic accuracy remains vague due to limited studies performed on this topic. In this retrospective cohort study, 1121 patients who underwent LLETZ and concomitant ECC during a twelve-year period (2009-2021) were analyzed.

A large single-center analysis of postoperative hemorrhage in more than 43,000 thyroid operations: The relevance of intraoperative systolic blood pressure, the individual surgeon, and surgeon-to-patient gender (in-)congruence.

Background: To date, there is no reliable measure for the prevention of postoperative hemorrhage after thyroid surgery. An increase in the postoperative hemorrhage rate at our institution in 2021 prompted us to look for possible causes with a special focus on perioperative systolic blood pressure, the individual surgeon, and surgeon-to-patient gender congruence.

Methods: We drew on our prospectively managed database to review 43,360 consecutive thyroid surgeries.
