Background: Close to 80 to 90% of subjects with AD also present cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) a disease in which amyloid accumulation damages the vasculature an impairs blood flow. Since current AD therapies are targeting the disease focusing on amyloid, we are interested on determine how to decrease the accumulation of amyloid in the vasculature observed in CAA and our aim is to determine the impact of tau reduction in CAA pathogenesis.

Method: We crossed the Tg-FDD mice CAA model with Mapt mice to decrease tau levels and analyzed the disease pathogenesis in the different genotypes though behavioral tests, histological and morphometric assays and transcriptomic analysis using the nCounter neuroimmflamation panel from Nanostring.

Background: Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) are common in early stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and may be early markers of cognitive decline and dementia in older individuals. The Mild Behavioral Impairment Checklist (MBI-C) was developed to capture new-onset transdiagnostic NPS in individuals at risk of dementia. We sought to determine whether mild behavioral impairment symptoms are elevated in non-demented Presenilin-1 (PSEN1) E280A carriers, who are genetically determined to develop dementia by their 50s.

Background: Stressors occurring over the lifespan (i.e., lifetime stressor exposure) are hypothesized to contribute to greater risk of cognitive decline and dementia.

Background: Sleep apnea is associated with risk of objectively-measured cognitive decline and dementia, as well as with subjective cognitive decline (SCD), itself a risk factor for cognitive decline and dementia. This relationship is understudied in ethnoracially diverse groups, however, including Latinos. This study examined associations among self-reported sleep apnea risk, SCD, and cognitive performance in community-dwelling older Latino adults.
