Article Synopsis
  • Endometriosis is linked to changes in gut and urinary microbiomes, which can be influenced by the number of sexual partners and the type of treatments patients receive.
  • Researchers collected and analyzed samples from patients with endometriosis and control individuals to understand the effects of hormonal therapy and surgical interventions on microbial profiles.
  • Results showed that higher sexual partner exposure can worsen microbial imbalances in endometriosis patients, potentially reducing the effectiveness of treatments like hormone therapy and surgery.*

Declines in bumble bee species range and abundances are documented across multiple continents and have prompted the need for research to aid species recovery and conservation. The rusty patched bumble bee (Bombus affinis) is the first federally listed bumble bee species in North America. We conducted a range-wide population genetics study of B.

Article Synopsis
  • The decline in global biodiversity is not just affecting rare species, but also impacting common species like the western bumble bee, which has seen a significant drop in population across North America.
  • Research used extensive data to analyze the influence of climate, land use, and pesticide application on the bumble bee's occupancy from 1998 to 2020, revealing strong negative impacts from higher temperatures, droughts, and neonicotinoids.
  • The findings predict a staggering mean occupancy decline of 57% overall, with severe drops expected in nearly half of the ecoregions by the 2050s, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced species monitoring and data integration to understand and address these declines.

The complex thermal history imposed by the laser-based powder bed fusion of metals (PBF-LB/M) process is known to promote the evolution of unique microstructures. In the present study, metastable CrMnNi steels with different nickel contents and, thus, different phase stabilities are manufactured by PBF-LB/M. Results clearly reveal that an adequate choice of materials will allow to tailor mechanical properties as well as residual stress states in the as-built material to eventually redundantize any thermal post-treatment.
