Surface wettability plays an important role in heterogeneous electrocatalysis. Here we report a facile laser ablation strategy to directly modify the wettability of the silver catalyst surface and investigate its effect on oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). A broad range tuning of 2e/4e ORR pathways was achieved, with hydrophilic silver surfaces (contact angle (θ) 31.

Minimizing Pt loading is essential for designing cost-effective water electrolyzers and fuel cell systems. Recently, three-dimensional macroporous open-pore electroactive supports have been widely regarded as promising architectures to lower loading amounts of Pt because of its large surface area, easy electrolyte access to Pt sites, and superior gas diffusion properties to accelerate diffusion of H bubbles from the Pt surface. However, studies to date have mainly focused on Pt loading on Ni-based 3D open pore supports which are prone to corrosion in highly acidic and alkaline conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates inner ear abnormalities in children with unilateral sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), focusing on the unaffected ear, which has not been extensively studied before.
  • Using CT scans from 97 subjects deemed "normal" by neuroradiologists, the researchers measured various inner ear structures to find any abnormalities compared to a control group.
  • Results showed significant differences in inner ear structures between affected and unaffected ears, suggesting that children with unilateral SNHL may have undetected issues in both ears, indicating a broader disease process.

Purpose: To assess the accuracy of dual-energy CT (DECT) for the quantification of iodine concentrations in a thoracic phantom across various cardiac DECT protocols and simulated patient sizes.

Materials And Methods: Experiments were performed on first- and second-generation dual-source CT (DSCT) systems in DECT mode using various cardiac DECT protocols. An anthropomorphic thoracic phantom was equipped with tubular inserts containing known iodine concentrations (0-20 mg/mL) in the cardiac chamber and up to two fat-equivalent rings to simulate different patient sizes.

Objective: To investigate whether the effects of sex (male/female) that have been demonstrated in the pathology literature using 0.1 mm histopathologic slices are measurable and statistically significant using high-resolution (0.625 mm slice) computed tomography (CT).
