Vascular calcification is a highly regulated process with no current treatment. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) substantially heightens the likelihood of cardiovascular events, in part due to the impaired functionality of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and its connection with atherosclerosis. Here, 82 patients with CKD stages 2-5 had their plasma isolated and analyzed using mass spectrometry to detect post-translational modifications of apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I), the main protein component of HDL. Guanidinylation, a non-enzymatic post-translational modification, led to increased levels of apoA-I with CKD progression.

Variational ab initio methods in quantum chemistry stand out among other methods in providing direct access to the wave function. This allows, in principle, straightforward extraction of any other observable of interest, besides the energy, but, in practice, this extraction is often technically difficult and computationally impractical. Here, we consider the electron density as a central observable in quantum chemistry and introduce a novel method to obtain accurate densities from real-space many-electron wave functions by representing the density with a neural network that captures known asymptotic properties and is trained from the wave function by score matching and noise-contrastive estimation.

Background: Axial spondyloarthritis (SpA) leads to structural bone lesions in every part of the vertebral column. These lesions are only partially visualized on conventional radiographs, omitting posterior parts of the vertebral column and the thoracic spine, that may nevertheless contribute to impaired spinal mobility and function in patients with axial SpA.

Methods: In this prospective and blinded investigation, we assessed the distribution of structural spinal lesions using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the whole spine in 55 patients with axial SpA classified according to the Assessment in Spondyloarthritis International Society (ASAS) criteria.

Objectives: In the current clinical practice of thermal ablation treatment for liver tumors, achieving consistent and effective clinical outcomes across tumors of varying shapes, sizes and locations remains challenging. The aim of this study was to evaluate the repeatability of a novel robotic approach for configurable ablation of distinct tumor shapes and compare it to the standard ablation technique for creating ellipsoidal ablation volumes.

Materials And Methods: The repeatability was evaluated in terms of width variability in created ablation volumes.
