Background And Purpose: The similarities in biology, treatment regimens and outcome between the different human papillomavirus (HPV) associated squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) allow for extrapolation of results generated from one SC tumor type to another. In HPV associated cancers, HPV is integrated into the tumor genome and can consequently be detected in the circulating fragments of the tumor DNA. Thus, measurement of HPV in the plasma is a surrogate for circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) and holds promise as a clinically relevant biomarker in HPV associated cancers.

We present a new theory for partitioning simulations of periodic and solid-state systems into physically sound atomic contributions at the level of Kohn-Sham density functional theory. Our theory is based on spatially localized linear combinations of crystalline Gaussian-type orbitals and, as such, capable of exposing local features within periodic electronic structures in a more intuitive and robust manner than alternatives based on the spatial distribution of atomic basis functions alone. Early decomposed cohesive energies of both molecular polymers and different crystalline polymorphs demonstrate how the atomic properties yielded by our theory convincingly align with the expected charge polarization in these systems, also whenever partial charges and Madelung energies may lend themselves somewhat ambiguous to interpretation.

For compendial dissolution testing of solid dosage forms, media volumes of 500 to 900 mL are used in apparatus I and II to ensure sink conditions. However, these volumes are considerably larger than those in the gastrointestinal tract. Thus, the experiments are not biomimetic and possibly not suitable for biopredictive dissolution testing.
