[A woman with paraneoplastic dermatoses; signs of recurrent malignancy].

Background: Paraneoplastic dermatoses may be the first manifestation of a malignancy. Rapid recognition is therefore important.

Case Description: A 72-year-old woman who had been treated in the past for metastasised neuroendocrine carcinoma and had undergone curative treatment for stage-1c endometrial carcinoma developed three paraneoplastic dermatoses over a 2-year period: acanthosis nigricans, tripe palms and acquired hypertrichosis lanuginosa.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis first presenting in the skin in adults: frequent association with a second haematological malignancy.

Background: Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) in adults first presenting in the skin is rare. Guidelines for staging, treatment and follow-up are lacking.

Objectives: To better define staging procedures, treatment results and clinical course in adult patients with LCH first presenting in the skin.

Subsequent squamous- and basal-cell carcinomas in kidney-transplant recipients after the first skin cancer: cumulative incidence and risk factors.

Background: The risk of skin cancer is highly increased in kidney-transplant recipients (KTR), but the risk of subsequent skin cancers is less well studied. The aim of this study was to estimate the cumulative incidence of subsequent squamous- and basal-cell carcinomas (BCCs) and to analyze potential risk factors.

Methods: All histologically confirmed skin cancers between 1966 and 2006 were included in the study and counted.

Trends of skin diseases in organ-transplant recipients transplanted between 1966 and 2006: a cohort study with follow-up between 1994 and 2006.

Background: Skin diseases are frequently observed in organ-transplant recipients (OTRs).

Objectives: To count the registered skin diseases in all 2136 OTRs who had been transplanted in a single centre between 1966 and 2006 and to calculate their relative contribution in relation to the number of years after transplantation.

Methods: All registered skin diseases which were entered into a computerized system between 1994 and 2006 at the Leiden University Medical Centre were counted and their relative contributions were calculated.
