This review studies women's preferences for shared decision-making about heavy menstrual bleeding treatment and evaluates interventions that support shared decision-making and their effectiveness. PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, Medline and ClinicalTrials.gov were searched.

Which laboratory tests do students in an internal medicine clerkship need to learn about?

A PDA (personal digital assistant) program containing information on 193 laboratory tests was provided to students during the 8-week core clerkship in internal medicine. Students used the program at their own discretion. The number of times each test was accessed during the clerkship was recorded by the program's database.

A portable laboratory test reference for handheld computers: evaluation on an internal medicine clerkship.

We provided a laboratory test program for the personal digital assistant (PDA) to a cohort of third year medical students during their internal medicine clerkship. At the end of each rotation, students were interviewed about their experience with the program, and tracking information was downloaded from their PDAs. Students found the program helpful and easy to use, accessed it more often during patient care activities than as a study aid, and considered the program a better way to learn about laboratory tests than formal teaching sessions.

Outpatient treatment of venous thromboembolic disease based in an emergency department.

Purpose: The efficacy, safety, and patient satisfaction of an emergency department (ED)-based outpatient program providing treatment for venous thromboembolic disease (VTD) were studied.

Methods: A prospective cohort study of patients enrolled in a hospital outpatient VTD treatment program was conducted from June 1999 to September 2003. Endpoints included recurrent VTD at three and six months following discharge from the program, minor and major bleeding, and thrombocytopenia during the acute phase of therapy.
