With the aim of improving access and engagement to healthcare in people living with HIV (PLHIV), in 2022 Gregorio Marañón Hospital and the NGO COGAM developed a circuit for recruitment and referral to hospital. Program targeted PLHIV who were neither receiving antiretroviral treatment (ART) nor on medical follow-up (FU); but also, individuals at risk who underwent screening tests at the NGO and, if positive, were referred for confirmation. The result was an increase in annual new PLHIV seen in hospital by reaching a population who were, essentially, young men (94% male, median age 30 years), migrants (95%) with recent diagnosis of HIV (median 5 years) and who were recently arrived in Spain (median 5 months).

Purpose: Trimodal therapy (TMT) is the standard treatment for patients with nonmetastatic inflammatory breast cancer (IBC). TMT consists of neoadjuvant systemic therapy, modified radical mastectomy (MRM), and postmastectomy radiation therapy. Although broadly considered the best approach for IBC, in the United States, only a third of patients receive TMT.

Background: The current diagnostic strategy for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection involves a two-step approach: antibody HCV screening followed by confirmatory nucleic acid testing. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the Abbott ARCHITECT HCV Ag assay in serum/plasma samples as a potential one-step alternative for diagnosing active HCV infection in people living with hepatitis B virus (PLWHB) through a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted following PRISMA-DTA guidelines.

Article Synopsis
  • Janus kinases (JAKs) play a crucial role in regulating signaling and gene transcription by binding to class I and II cytokine receptors, particularly in the context of type I interferons (IFNs).
  • Research showed that modified IFNARs maintain similar IFN signaling levels, while specific versions of IFNAR2 perform poorly despite having necessary docking sites for JAKs and STATs.
  • JAKs exhibit promiscuous binding to various cytokine receptors, influencing cross-phosphorylation and signaling efficiency, which contributes to the different signaling outcomes observed in different cell types.
