Premise: Despite the high functional importance of endophytes, we still have limited understanding of the biotic and abiotic factors that influence colonization of plant hosts along major ecological gradients and lack quantitative estimates of their colonization extent. In this study, we hypothesized that the developmental stage of the ecosystem will affect the levels of bacterial and fungal endophytic assemblages in the foliar endosphere.
Methods: We quantified levels of bacterial and fungal endophytes in leaves of four plant hosts at four stages of vegetation succession using an optimized qPCR protocol with bacteria-specific 16S and fungi-targeting primers.
Purpose: Optimal approaches for tobacco treatment counseling among individuals who currently smoke and are undergoing shared decision-making (SDM) and lung cancer screening (LCS) are unknown. The objective of this cross-sectional study was to determine the rate of reported interest in tobacco treatment counseling and pharmacotherapy among individuals who currently smoke and are receiving integrated nurse navigation for LCS and tobacco treatment in a centralized LCS Program.
Methods: We identified individuals undergoing SDM through our centralized LCS Program between March 2021 and March 2022.
Highly fragmented ribosomal RNA-coding sequences are characteristic of mitogenomes of protozoan parasites of the phylum Apicomplexa. Identification of ribosomal RNA encoding sequences in apicomplexan mitogenomes has largely relied on sequence similarity with several apicomplexan species for which expression of these genes has been demonstrated. The present study applied Next-Gen sequencing to investigate the expression of fragmented putative mitochondrial rRNAs inEimeria tenella, a coccidian parasite of poultry.

Eimeria tenella, one of the species that cause intestinal coccidiosis in poultry, can cause significant mortality and morbidity. Diploid oocysts of Eimeria species are shed in the feces of an infected host and must sporulate to achieve infectivity.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAccurate staging improves lung cancer survival by increasing the chances of delivering stage-appropriate therapy. However, there is underutilization of, and variability in, the use of guideline-recommended diagnostic tests used to stage lung cancer. Consequently, the American Cancer Society National Lung Cancer Roundtable (ACS NLCRT) convened the Triage for Appropriate Treatment Task Group-a multidisciplinary expert and stakeholder panel-to identify knowledge and/or resource gaps contributing to guideline-discordant staging and make recommendations to overcome these gaps.
