The outbreak of COVID-19 has opened up new avenues for exploring the importance of vitamin D in immunity, in addition to its role in calcium absorption. Recently, vitamin D supplementation has been found to enhance T regulatory lymphocytes, which are reduced in individuals with COVID-19. Increased risk of pneumonia and increases in inflammatory cytokines have been reported to be major threats associated with vitamin-D deficiency.

Background: Health impacts of pediatric fruit and vegetable prescription programs (FVPPs) are unclear. This study assessed whether exposure to an FVPP that provided $15 produce prescriptions during pediatric visits was associated with differences in child diet, food security, physical activity, weight status, and blood pressure.

Methods: This cross-sectional analysis included data from caregiver-child dyads with varying levels of exposure to the FVPP.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study uses broadband optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) to detect a weakly exchange-coupled triplet pair, which is influenced by light intensity and molecular orientation.
  • * The research reveals a complex interaction of multiexciton states and transitions that can inform future designs of materials for exciton fission applications.

Article Synopsis
  • Singlet fission (SF) can enhance the efficiency of electronic devices by converting one singlet exciton into two triplet excitons, but its success relies on molecular packing and structure.
  • Certain benchmark materials for SF, like acenes, face challenges such as photodegradation, which can hinder their effectiveness.
  • This study compares different packing styles of functionalized tetracenes and finds that while both packing types support SF effectively, "slip-stack" is better at lower temperatures, and "gamma" packing shows superior resistance to photodegradation, suggesting a balance between SF efficiency and material stability can be achieved through smart design.

Purpose: Limiting time with friends (LTWF), a facet of parental monitoring, may be protective for newly incident adolescent alcohol, tobacco cigarette, and cannabis use.

Methods: We extended epidemiological evidence based on estimates from nationally representative samples of US adolescents aged 12-17 years, across 18 years of independent samples of the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2002-2019). We estimated the prevalence of always LTWF, and odds ratios examining incident alcohol, tobacco cigarette, and cannabis use by LTWF within age and cohort.
