Background: Improvements in cementless total hip arthroplasty have been directed at optimizing osseointegration of the femoral implant to reduce aseptic loosening rates. Stem design plays a critical role in the performance of these implants. Given the increase in new stem designs and the creation of an updated classification system, improved understanding of the outcomes of each stem type is warranted.

Physiological or genetic assays and computational modeling are valuable tools for understanding animals' visual discrimination capabilities. Yet sometimes, the results generated by these methods appear not to jive with other aspects of an animal's appearance or natural history, and behavioral confirmatory tests are warranted. Here we examine the peculiar case of a male jumping spider that displays red, black, white, and UV color patches during courtship despite the fact that, according to microspectrophotometry and color vision modeling, they are unlikely able to discriminate red from black.

This study utilizes an all-payer database to compare 90-d and 1-year outcomes between marijuana and non-marijuana users undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA). The primary aim of this study focused on 90-d and 1-year opioid consumption among marijuana users and non-users who underwent THA. Our secondary aim focused on comparing 90-d and 1-year rates of readmissions, revisions and adverse events between the two groups.

Objectives: Recently, deep learning medical image analysis in orthopedics has become highly active. However, progress has been restricted by the absence of large-scale and standardized ground-truth images. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to propose an innovative solution, namely a deep few-shot image augmentation pipeline, that addresses this challenge by synthetically generating knee radiographs for training downstream tasks, with a specific focus on knee osteoarthritis Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grading.
