Exploring Arylidene-Indolinone Ligands of Autophagy Proteins LC3B and GABARAP.

We report the first structure-activity studies of arylidene-indolinone compound which was reported as a ligand of autophagy-related protein LC3B. The literature has conflicting information on the binding affinity of this compound and there is some debate regarding its use as a component of autophagy-dependent degrader compounds. We developed an AlphaScreen assay to measure competitive inhibition of the binding of known peptide ligands to LC3B and its paralog GABARAP.

The impact of statewide educational webinars on infection prevention and control knowledge and policy updates in acute and long-term care facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic: the Nebraska experience.

A Nebraska statewide webinar series was initiated during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic for long-term care (LTC) and acute care/outpatient (AC) facilities. An impact survey was completed by 48 of 96 AC and 109 of 429 LTC facilities. The majority reported increased regulatory awareness (AC: 65%, LTC: 54%) and updated COVID-19 (AC: 61%, LTC: 69%) and general infection prevention (AC: 61%, LTC: 60%) policies.

Management of Bacteriuria and Urinary Tract Infections in the Older Adult.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most frequent bacterial infections diagnosed in older adults and the most common reason for antibiotic prescriptions in nursing homes. Distinguishing between asymptomatic bacteriuria and UTI in older adults can be challenging and implementing a systematic approach to diagnosis using standard toolkits or algorithms is recommended for patients residing in post-acute and long-term care settings. This article reviews the pathophysiology, microbiology, diagnostic approach, treatment, and approaches to prophylaxis in the older adult.

Building Sustainable Community-Academic Partnerships while Implementing a Nutrition-Based Blackberry Garden Program at a Senior Center.

Due to limited access to and consumption of fruits and vegetables, older adults are at increased risk of worsening or developing chronic diseases. This paper describes a community-academic partnership that provides a sustainable source of blackberries to attendees of a rural senior center. Qualitative research evaluated the partnership following implementation of a blackberry program.
