Purpose: To analyze the correlation between pharyngeal residue and penetration/aspiration in post-stroke individuals.

Methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive, retrospective, clinical study with 157 post-stroke individuals, 71 females and 86 males, aged 26 to 92 years (mean age: 67.2 years), all diagnosed by neurological assessment and imaging exams (computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging), who underwent fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) in a rehabilitation center.

Dysfunction of the RNA binding protein heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1 (hnRNP A1) contributes to neurodegeneration, the primary cause of permanent disability in multiple sclerosis (MS). To better understand the role of hnRNP A1 dysfunction in the pathogenesis of neurodegeneration, we utilized optogenetics-driven hnRNP A1 clustering to model its dysfunction in neuron-like differentiated Neuro-2A cells. hnRNP A1 clustering activates the integrated stress response (ISR) and results in a neurodegenerative phenotype marked by decreased neuronal protein translation and neurite loss.

Pre-eclampsia is a severe placenta-related complication of pregnancy with limited early diagnostic and therapeutic options. Aetiological knowledge is controversial, and there is no universal consensus on what constitutes the early and late phenotypes of pre-eclampsia. Phenotyping of native placental three-dimensional (3D) morphology offers a novel approach to improve our understanding of the structural placental abnormalities in pre-eclampsia.

Extending the range of use of the heterologous fibrin biopolymer, this pre-clinical study showed a new proportionality of its components directed to the formation of scaffold with a lower density of the resulting mesh to facilitate the infiltration of bone cells, and combined with therapy by laser photobiomodulation, in order to accelerate the repair process and decrease the morphofunctional recovery time. Thus, a transoperative protocol of laser photobiomodulation (L) was evaluated in critical bone defects filled with deproteinized bovine bone particles (P) associated with heterologous fibrin biopolymer (HF). The groups were: BC (blood clot + laser); HF; HF; PHF (P+HF); PHF (P+HF+L).
