The Weismann-Netter, Stuhl syndrome: a rare pediatric skeletal dysplasia.

A 5-year-old girl presented with lower limb deformities, delayed ambulation, short stature, facial dysmorphism and scoliosis. Radiologic examination showed severe anterior and external bowing of the femurs and anterior and internal bowing of the tibia and fibula, with posterior and medial cortical thickening. Square iliac wings, horizontal sacrum and low-set L5 were also seen.

Bilateral Baker's cyst as the presenting symptom of paraneoplastic syndrome.

Paraneoplastic syndrome is defined as a systemic malignancy producing prostaglandins or other substances that lead to various manifestations, syndromes or diseases. In the following report we present a case of a young patient complaining of bilateral Baker's cysts who ultimately was diagnosed as suffering from gastric lymphoma. Following subtotal gastrectomy the Baker's cysts disappeared with no specific treatment.

Transplacental effects of thyrocalcitonin on intestinal calcium-binding protein, alkaline phosphatase activity and ossification of long bones in rat fetuses.

Pregnant rats were treated with 44, 88 and 176 Medical Research Council munits of thyrocalcitonin (TCT) twice daily during days 10 to 21 of gestation. Nonpregnant rats received the same treatment for 12 days. Administration of TCT to the pregnant rats increased the ash and calcium content of fetal bones and decreased the phosphorus content.
