Ticks are medically important vectors of pathogens, many of which are zoonotic or impact domestic animal and/or wildlife health. Climate change, landuse modifications, and increasing interactions between domestic animals, wildlife, and humans have resulted in changes in tick-host dynamics and the emergence of novel pathogens worldwide. Therefore, describing the host and geographic ranges of vector species is essential in assessing disease risk, especially in understudied areas, and should be conducted in a One Health context.

Using rare cancer predisposition alleles derived from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and high cancer prevalence (14% of participants) in All of Us (version 6), we assessed the impact of these rare alleles on cancer occurrence in six broad groups of genetic similarity provided by All of Us: African/African American (AFR), Admixed American/Latino (AMR), East Asian (EAS), European (EUR), Middle Eastern (MID), or South Asian (SAS). Background: Social risk factors are linked to adverse health outcomes, but their total impact on long-term quality of life is obscure. We hypothesized that a higher burden of social risk factors is associated with greater decline in quality of life over 10 years.

Methods: We examined associations between social risk factors count and decline >5 points in (i) physical component summary, and (ii) mental component summary scores from the Short Form-12 among Black and White participants in the Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke study (n = 14 401).

Missed Distal Femoral Cortical Perforation During Intramedullary Nailing of an Intertrochanteric Femur Fracture: The Role of Early Advanced Imaging.

Distal femoral anterior cortical perforation is a rare complication of intramedullary nailing for proximal femur fractures. Awareness and intraoperative preventive measures are key to minimizing the risk of this complication. We report a case of a patient who experienced an anterior cortical breach of the distal femur during routine antegrade nailing for an intertrochanteric fracture, which was attributed to a sclerotic lesion in the distal femur.

DiffMAP-GP: Continuous 2D diffusion maps from particle trajectories without data binning using Gaussian processes.

Diffusion coefficients often vary across regions, such as cellular membranes, and quantifying their variation can provide valuable insight into local membrane properties such as composition and stiffness. Toward quantifying diffusion coefficient spatial maps and uncertainties from particle tracks, we develop a Bayesian framework (DiffMAP-GP) by placing Gaussian process (GP) priors on the family of candidate maps. For sake of computational efficiency, we leverage inducing point methods on GPs arising from the mathematical structure of the data giving rise to nonconjugate likelihood-prior pairs.
