Persistent cognitive fatigue (CF) is the most reported symptom in Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 Infection (PASC), but little is known about its underlying neural basis. This pilot study examined fMRI brain activation patterns during a fatiguing task in those with and without PASC. We hypothesized that individuals with PASC would show changes in CF-related brain activation within fatigue network.

Background: Although intravenous antibiotics have historically been the standard of care for bone and joint infections, clinical trial data have highlighted the safety and efficacy of oral antibiotics. Despite this, intravenous antibiotics are still commonly used, and evaluations of institutional guidelines advancing oral antibiotic use are limited.

Methods: In April 2023, we implemented a new institutional guideline to preferentially treat patients with bone and joint infections with oral antibiotics.

Unlabelled: Wastewater surveillance for infectious agents has proved useful in identifying the circulation of viruses within populations. We investigated the presence and concentration of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 total nucleic acids (including both viral RNA and proviral DNA) in wastewater solids. We retrospectively measured HIV-1 nucleic acids in two samples per week for 26 months at two wastewater treatment plants serving populations with different prevalences of HIV infections in San Francisco and Santa Clara County, California, USA.
