Objective: The objective of this preclinical study was to examine the responses of the brain to noxious stimulation in the presence and absence of different modes of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) using blood-oxygen-level-dependent functional magnetic resonance imaging (BOLD-fMRI).
Materials And Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized to groups based on the mode of SCS delivered which included tonic stimulation (n = 27), burst stimulation (n = 30), and burst-cycle stimulation (n = 29). The control (sham) group (n = 28) received no SCS.
Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy Diffraction Contrast Imaging (STEM-DCI) has been gaining popularity for the identification and analysis of dislocations in crystalline materials due to its ability to supress undesirable image features that are often present in conventional TEM images. However, there does not yet exist a robust body of work demonstrating expected contrast in these imaging conditions. A novel approach for the simulation of STEM-DCI images was developed using a modified form of the scattering matrix formalism.

The present study examined the possible influence(s) of 5-HT(2A) or 5-HT(2C) receptor-mediated signaling locally within the striatum on motor behavior triggered by 5-HT(2) receptor agonism in the neonatal DA-depleted rat. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA; 60 microg in 5 microl per lateral ventricle) on postnatal day 3 to achieve near-total DA depletion bilaterally.

Introduction: Repetitive, brief coronary artery occlusions produce collateral development in experimental animals. This model causes coronary collateralization in a highly reproducible fashion, but the process is very labor intensive. We report the design and use of a fully automated hydraulic coronary occlusion device capable of producing repetitive coronary occlusions and enhancement of coronary collateral development in dogs.

Recent evidence suggests that reactive oxygen species (ROS) promote proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle (VSMC) and endothelial cells (EC). We tested the hypothesis that ROS serve as crucial messengers during coronary collateral development. Dogs were subjected to brief (2 min), repetitive coronary artery occlusions (1/h, 8/day, 21 day duration) in the absence (occlusion, n = 8) or presence of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) (occlusion + NAC, n = 8).
