Oleogelation was investigated to reduce the saturated fat content of vegan cheese. Oleogels were formulated using a range of oleogelators, oleogelator concentrations and oil phase compositions to study the effect that adjusting these parameters had on both oleogel and vegan cheese properties. Comparing oleogels at an equivalent mass basis of 20 wt%, phytosterol oleogels exhibited greater hardness (5.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study focused on the role of the complement anaphylatoxin C5a in hookworm infection during the early lung stage, revealing that C5aR1 mice had a reduced burden of hookworms and less lung damage compared to regular mice.
  • * Results showed that C5aR1 signaling in neutrophils plays a complex role in response to hookworm infections, highlighting an unexpected downside of complement activation in fighting parasites.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the causes of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) with preexcitation in patients under 21, focusing on identifying the types of accessory pathways (AP) involved.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 345 patients, finding that 8% had preexcitation linked to various conditions such as isolated HCM, storage disorders, and genetic syndromes. They distinguished between true accessory pathways and fasciculoventricular fibers (FVF).
  • The findings revealed that preexcitation was often mediated by FVF in many patients, with some showing high-risk conduction properties. The study emphasizes the need for careful monitoring and successful ablation treatments for these young patients.

IL-27 is a heterodimeric IL-12 family cytokine formed by noncovalent association of the promiscuous EBI3 subunit and selective p28 subunit. IL-27 is produced by mononuclear phagocytes and unfolds pleiotropic immune-modulatory functions through ligation to IL-27 receptor α (IL-27RA). Although IL-27 is known to contribute to immunity and to limit inflammation after various infections, its relevance for host defense against multicellular parasites is still poorly defined.

Unlabelled: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) remains a major cause of death and disability each year in the United States. Implementation of preestablished evidence-based guidelines has been associated with a decrease in overall TBI mortality and disability.

Objectives: An electronic clinical monitoring tool was developed for monitoring compliance with evidence-based TBI treatment protocols to improve the overall care and outcomes in this patient population.
