Aim: The relationship between bronchiolitis and asthma is complex. We assessed whether patients admitted to a paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) with bronchiolitis had a greater risk of developing asthma than patients admitted to a paediatric ward.

Methods: We retrospectively included children under 1 year of age, who were hospitalised for bronchiolitis for the first time at the University Hospital of Caen, France, between 2010 and 2014.

Neutrophils are essential for host defense against infections, but they also play a key role in acute and chronic inflammation. The protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 22 (PTPN22) gene encodes the lymphoid-specific tyrosine phosphatase (Lyp) and a genetic single-nucleotide polymorphism of PTPN22 rs2476601 (R620W) has been associated with several human autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Here, we investigated the role of Lyp in TNFα-induced priming of neutrophil ROS production and in the development of arthritis using new selective Lyp inhibitors.

Article Synopsis
  • Salivary gland Secretory Carcinoma (SC) is a rare tumor first described in 2010; a study analyzed 108 cases from the REFCOR database to evaluate diagnosis, treatment, and survival rates up to July 2021.
  • MRI was found to be ineffective for diagnosing malignancy, and while 79% of patients received a diagnosis after two histological readings, 21% needed molecular testing for confirmation.
  • Results showed high survival rates, with 91.4% overall survival and 89% recurrence-free survival at five years, suggesting a generally positive prognosis for SC patients.*
