Perceived wildfire risk and past experiences with wildfire smoke influence public support for prescribed burning in the western conterminous United States.

Background: Prescribed burning is an important fuel management tool to prevent severe wildfires. There is a pressing need to increase its application to reduce dry fuels in the western United States, a region that has experienced many damaging wildfires. Public support for this practice is tempered by concern around smoke impacts and escape risks.

Dieulafoy's Lesion: A Rare Cause of Gastrointestinal Bleeding after Interrupted Aortic Arch Repair in an Adult.

Survival into adulthood in patients with an interrupted aortic arch (IAA) is exceedingly rare. A recent literature review found 25 reported cases of IAA in adults. We describe the first case of prolonged, occult, postoperative gastrointestinal bleeding as a major complication following IAA surgery.

Generating a Peptide Library Using the Repeats of Amino Acid Scaffolds Created by Sliding the Framework of a 7-mer Human Chemerin Segment and Discovery of Potent Antibacterial and Antimycobacterial Peptides.

The quest for new approaches for generating novel bioactive designer proteins/peptides has continued with their success in various biomedical applications. Previously, we designed a 14-mer α-helical peptide with antimicrobial and antimycobacterial activities by employing a tandem repeat of the 7-mer, "KVLGRLV" human chemerin segment. Herein, we devised a new method of "sliding framework" with this segment to create amino acid scaffolds of varying sizes and sequences and explored the design of a peptide library with antibacterial and antimycobacterial activities.
