Developing a core outcome set for the health outcomes for children and adults with congenital oesophageal atresia and/or tracheo-oesophageal fistula: OCELOT task group study protocol.

Introduction: Heterogeneity in reported outcomes of infants with oesophageal atresia (OA) with or without tracheo-oesophageal fistula (TOF) prevents effective data pooling. Core outcome sets (COS) have been developed for many conditions to standardise outcome reporting, facilitate meta-analysis and improve the relevance of research for patients and families. Our aim is to develop an internationally-agreed, comprehensive COS for OA-TOF, relevant from birth through to transition and adulthood.

Use, misuse, and overuse of antenatal corticosteroids. A retrospective cohort study.

Objectives: To evaluate the timing of antenatal corticosteroids (ACS) administration in relation to the delivery timing based on indications and risk factors for preterm delivery.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study to understand what factors predict the optimal timing of ACS administration (ACS administration within seven days). We reviewed consecutive charts of adult pregnant women receiving ACS from January 1, 2011, to December 31, 2019.

Understanding Auto-Brewery Syndrome in 2023: A Clinical and Comprehensive Review of a Rare Medical Condition.

Auto-brewery syndrome (ABS) occurs when the gastrointestinal tract produces excessive endogenous ethanol. This article examines various aspects of ABS such as its epidemiology, underlying etiology, diagnostic difficulties, management strategies, and social implications. By synthesizing the existing medical literature, we hope to identify understanding gaps, pave the way for further research, and ultimately improve detection, treatment, and awareness.

Laparoscopic inguinal herniotomy: Recreating the open operation optimises outcomes.

Background: Recent evidence suggests simple laparoscopic inguinal herniorrhaphy is associated with higher rates of recurrence and testicular ascent. We instigated a standardised approach to laparoscopic inguinal herniotomy (LIH), with circumferential sac division and 'purse-string' closure (4/0 monofilament polypropylene). An active follow-up programme was pursued.
