Age, cancer, and the dual burden of cancer and doxorubicin in skeletal muscle wasting in female rats: which one to blame?

Sarcopenia and cancer cachexia are two life-threatening conditions often misdiagnosed. The skeletal muscle is one of the organs most adversely affected by these conditions, culminating in poor quality of life and premature mortality. In addition, it has been suggested that chemotherapeutic agents exacerbate cancer cachexia, as is the case of doxorubicin.

Investigation of the Ternary System, Water/Hydrochloric Acid/Polyamide 66, for the Production of Polymeric Membranes by Phase Inversion.

The starting point for the preparation of polymeric membranes by phase inversion is having a thermodynamically stable solution. Ternary diagrams for the polymer, solvent, and non-solvent can predict this stability by identifying the phase separation and describing the thermodynamic behavior of the membrane formation process. Given the lack of data for the ternary system water (HO)/hydrochloric acid (HCℓ)/polyamide 66 (PA66), this work employed the Flory-Huggins theory for the construction of the ternary diagrams (HO/HCℓ/PA66 and HO/formic acid (FA)/PA66) by comparing the experimental data with theoretical predictions.

Microbiota translocation following intestinal barrier disruption promotes Mincle-mediated training of myeloid progenitors in the bone marrow.

Impairment of the intestinal barrier allows the systemic translocation of commensal bacteria, inducing a proinflammatory state in the host. Here, we investigated innate immune responses following increased gut permeability upon administration of dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) in mice. We found that Enterococcus faecalis translocated to the bone marrow following DSS treatment and induced trained immunity (TI) hallmarks in bone-marrow-derived mouse macrophages and human monocytes.

Disparities in Clinical Outcomes Observed Within Electronic Health Record Data From a Statewide Cohort of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Patients.

Health disparities in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) have not been extensively reported in the United States. The aim of this project was to characterize the extent of demographic and socioeconomic disparities in clinical outcomes within a large, diverse PAH patient population. A retrospective, population-based study of electronic health record data from the OneFlorida Data Trust was completed.

Associations between sleep bruxism and primary headaches: a descriptive study.

To evaluate the association between definitive sleep bruxism and primary headaches and to analyze other variables that may also be associated with definitive sleep bruxism. A descriptive study was carried out with a sample of adults with a medical indication for polysomnography in Florianópolis, Brazil. Data were collected in three phases: questionnaires, physical examinations and polysomnography.
