Anatomy and Lyon have a very long history together since the first hospital in France was set up on the banks of the Saône River in the fourteenth century. The Lyon school of Anatomy was originally in the Hôtel-Dieu, which later housed the "secondary" (1821) then "preparatory" (1841) schools. Only in 1877 was the Medicine and Pharmacy Faculty set up.

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether minimal invasive surgery (MIS) in elderly patients with neck of femur fractures would reduce the peri-operative complications and improve the post-operative ambulation and length of hospital stay in his cohort of patients. Forty elderly patients were treated with either total hip arthroplasty (THA) or bipolar prosthesis using MIS transgluteal approach. A matched reference group treated with a conventional surgical approach formed the control group.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study evaluated the performance of a specific dual mobility cup design in 994 revision total hip arthroplasties (THAs), focusing on dislocation and intra-prosthetic dislocation (IPD) rates over a mean follow-up of 7.3 years.
  • - Results showed a low dislocation rate of 1.5% and an even lower IPD rate of 0.2%, indicating the dual mobility cups generally help prevent dislocation in these surgeries.
  • - However, the study noted that dual mobility cups don’t fix technical errors made during surgery, and caution is advised for acetabular-only revisions with a poor head-to-neck ratio due to risks of early impingement and wear. *

The current study aimed to evaluate the outcome of a continuous and prospective series of 61 revision THAs with AAOS grade III and IV acetabular bone defect reconstruction using a Kerboull cross-plate, structural allograft and cemented dual mobility cup (Saturne, Amplitude, Valence, France). At a 7.5-year mean follow-up, no instability was reported after revision.

The aim of the study was to analyze the incidence of squeaking with ceramic-on-ceramic total hip arthroplasty (THA) after 10 years of follow-up and the potential complications that could occur related to this phenomenon. One hundred THAs implanted between November 1999 and December 2000 were evaluated. Incidence of squeaking was investigated clinically with a questionnaire.
