The transcription factor Shavenbaby (Svb), the only member of the OvoL family in , controls the fate of various epithelial embryonic cells and adult stem cells. Post-translational modification of Svb produces two protein isoforms, Svb-ACT and Svb-REP, which promote adult intestinal stem cell renewal or differentiation, respectively. To define Svb mode of action, we used engineered cell lines and develop an unbiased method to identify Svb target genes across different contexts.

In recent years, enzymatic recycling of the widely used polyester polyethylene terephthalate (PET) has become a complementary solution to current thermomechanical recycling for colored, opaque, and mixed PET. A large set of promising hydrolases that depolymerize PET have been found and enhanced by worldwide initiatives using various methods of protein engineering. Despite the achievements made in these works, it remains difficult to compare enzymes' performance and their applicability to large-scale reactions due to a lack of homogeneity between the experimental protocols used.

Organic market gardening is often promoted by urban municipalities as a way to resource part of the food supply, creating new social links and protecting groundwater resources. The agronomical and environmental performance of six commercial organic market gardening farms supplying vegetables in Paris were evaluated and compared with other vegetable production systems. When expressed in terms of protein production, the yield of these systems appears rather low compared with the productive capacity of open-field organic cropping systems where vegetable production is inserted into rotation with other crops.

The Orgeval watershed (104 km(2)) is a long-term experimental observatory and research site, representative of rural areas with intensive cereal farming of the temperate world. Since the past few years, we have been carrying out several studies on nitrate source, transformation and transfer of both surface and groundwaters in relation with land use and agriculture practices in order to assess nitrate (NO3(-)) leaching, contamination of aquifers, denitrification processes and associated nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions. A synthesis of these studies is presented to establish a quantitative diagnosis of nitrate contamination and N2O emissions at the watershed scale.

A high intensity direct current was applied for more than 10 min onto a bacterial suspension of Pseudomonas oleovorans ATCC 29347 suspended in silicone oil. The application of a gradually increased electric field from 0 to 2500 V x cm(-1) resulted in a decrease of the optical density of the bacterial suspension and the occurrence of a peak current of several hundred microA for living cells instead of a linear increase (few microA) for killed or lyophilised cells. This procedure is not only a rapid way of investigating the living state of cell cultures but also an efficient experimental tool to study the cellular effects of a controlled electrical stress.
