This study aimed to assess the calcaneal bone mineral density (BMD) of elite female trail runners and evaluate its reliability using a novel DXA method. It also examined the relationship between calcaneal BMD and other regions of interest to better understand bone health in this specific population. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 35 elite female trail runners from the Spanish national team.

Contamination by heavy metals (HMs) poses a significant threat to the ecosystem and its associated micro and macroorganisms, leading to ill effects on humans which necessitate the requirement of effective remediation strategies. Microbial remediation leverages the natural metabolic abilities of microbes to overcome heavy metal pollution effectively. Some of the mechanisms that aids in the removal of heavy metals includes bioaccumulation, biosorption, and biomineralization.

Specifically, the deformation of a monolayer of epithelial cells which are attached to a basement membrane and the surrounding stromal tissue. The epithelial monolayer , supporting basement membrane and stromal tissue are modelled using two separate vertex dynamics models (one for the epithelial monolayer layer and one for the basement membrane and stromal tissue combined) and interactions between the two are considered using the RBMCF to ensure biologically realistic interactions.
